A Year of Perseverance: Our Journey to the UK Debate Finals

After waiting for a year, the day has finally arrived. Today, through the debate competition, we defeated other schools once again and successfully advanced to the regional finals—breaking our school’s ten-year record. Next, we will step onto the stage of the UK National Finals. A year ago, we were eliminated in the regional finals and couldn’t go further. For this day, we have waited and prepared for an entire year. Over this year, we poured in countless effort, sweat, and sleepless nights, all for this very moment.

This year, we not only sharpened our debating skills but also learned how to remain composed under pressure and how to find growth opportunities in failure. Every discussion, every mock debate, every reflection became stepping stones to our success. Today’s victory belongs not just to our team but also to everyone who supported us—teachers, family, friends, and even those who quietly cheered us on from behind the scenes.

As the team captain, honestly speaking, I wasn’t certain we would advance today. The memory of last year’s defeat was still vivid, and this year’s opponents were equally formidable and well-prepared. Yet, the results proved that challenging difficulties yields rewards. It was these tough moments that forged our resilience and strengthened our resolve.
