The Rise of China in the 21st Century: An Observation and Thinking of a Student

On the Development of China in the Twenty-first Century

When I realized that this year’s Spring Festival would not be able to return to my hometown to celebrate the New Year (there is no holiday in the UK), I decided to celebrate this meaningful Lunar New Year in a special way.

As Chinese students studying in the UK, our every move and every word and action represent our deeply loved motherland. This sense of responsibility led me to an idea: Why not take this opportunity to share China’s development and achievements in the 21st century with my classmates? So, I decided to bring China’s pride abroad in the form of a speech, so that more people can understand this ancient and vibrant country.

This speech is not only a cultural dissemination, but also a self-challenge. This is my first time in English to give a speech without writing. From content conception to language expression, every detail has been repeatedly pondered and polished. In order to achieve the ideal effect, I sacrificed countless rest hours, and even got up at 4:30 in the morning and practiced over and over again in front of the mirror. I strive to be perfect in every gesture, expression, and tone of every sentence. In the end, the results of the speech were quite satisfactory, which made me feel extremely relieved.

When I stood on the stage and faced all my classmates, I only had one belief in my heart: at this moment, I represent not only myself, but also my motherland - China. This sense of mission makes me more determined and more confident. I told my classmates about China’s rapid development in science and technology, economy, culture and other fields, and shared the far-reaching significance of the “Belt and Road” initiative, as well as China’s positive contribution to global governance. I hope that through my speech, more people can see China’s progress and responsibility and feel the profoundness of Chinese culture.

This experience made me deeply realize that the dissemination of culture is not only a communication of language, but also a resonance of the soul. As an international student, I know deeply that I shoulder the responsibility of showing the real China to the world. In the future, I hope to let more people understand and understand China through more activities and speeches, and also allow Chinese culture to shine more dazzlingly on the world stage.

Finally, I would like to thank all the teachers and classmates who support me, thank you for giving me this opportunity, and thank you for your attention and recognition of China. Let us work together to contribute our strength to promoting cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and promoting world peace and development!
